Passiflora sidifolia is a species from Brazil that has medium sized pendulous flowers with white petals and reddish-purple striped filaments. These fragrant, ornate blossoms are produced on a vigorous but compact vine with unique leathery, somewhat droopy leaves. This vine will bloom in waves throughout the year.

We find that while Passiflora sidifolia grows happily during our summer heat, it does not typically bloom in extremely hot weather. However, it does bloom well in cool weather and is quite cold tolerant. Our vine blooms happily even in November when most flowers are gone, and temperature are dipping down near freezing overnight. We find the vine to be easy to grow, but not as free flowering as some of the hybrids. We have never had this vine produce fruit, but it is capable of setting edible fruit if pollinated.

Passiflora sidifolia is also sometimes incorrectly called Passiflora sidaefolia, and Passiflora sidiifolia.

For each item added to cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

It means that this Passiflora is not cold tolerant and requires protection from freezing temperatures.

Very unique, greenish, fragrant flowers that burst out of lantern shaped buds on a vigorous, sturdy vine. Produce delicious, edible fruit if pollinated.

Passiflora serrulata has very unique greenish and purple flowers surrounded by large papery bracts that resemble lanterns before the buds open. These flowers are held dangling below a vigorous, sturdy vine with oval leaves. Passiflora serrulata is a large vigorous vine, and due to the way the flowers are held it lends itself well to being planted on a pergola or other large support structure that allows viewing the plant from below. In addition to the gorgeous flowers, it will produce edible fruit if pollinated by another vine. If you wish to grow fruit a different P. serrulata strain would be the best choice for a pollination partner.

Passiflora serrulata is a species native to Columbia and Venezuela, and likes warm temperatures. It typically flowers mid-late summer for us. It can be a bit tricky to grow, so is best for a more experienced grower. Nonetheless, it is worth growing for its unique flowers and tasty fruits.

Large, bright pink flowers with a rich red center grace this easy to grow vine. Free flowering heat and cold tolerant plant.

The post Passiflora ‘Miri’ first appeared on Snowdrop Farm.

Passiflora ‘Miri’ is a brand new, more heat tolerant pink hybrid. The flowers are bright pink with a deeper almost red center. The look very similar to Passiflora ‘Anastasia’ although the blooms are not quite as large. If you live in a hot location and want Anastasia’s pink blooms, Miri would likely be a better choice. While Miri still doesn’t thrive in extreme heat, it definitely seems to perform better than Anastasia who sometimes struggles to survive our summers.

Miri is an easy to grow fairly free flowering cultivar. The vigorous vine boasts deeply lobed, attractive, medium green leaves. Additionally it is quite cold tolerant. As this variety is quite new to us, we have not verified this. However, it is purported to be capable of surviving temperatures down to 20 degrees or below. We would not recommend exposing it to temperatures that cold for an extended period of time.

In most places you should plant it in full sun. However, in very hot climates give it some afternoon shade.

For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

For those interested Passiflora ‘Miri’ is Shawn Mattison’s hybrid, but parentage is unstated.

Large 4" red blossoms surrounded by decorative orange bracts grace Passiflora 'Red Radiance' year round. It is one of only a few everblooming red Passiflora.

The post Passiflora ‘Red Radiance’ first appeared on Snowdrop Farm.

This vine, produces large slightly orangeish red flowers year round. These gorgeous 4″ blossoms are accented by large showy red bracts grace this vine almost continuously. These bracts make the vine extra showy as they are orange and decorative while the buds are developing. Passiflora ‘Red Radiance’ is a cross between the scarlet red, winter flowering Passiflora miniata and the everblooming, very finicky to grow, orange Passiflora ‘Piresae’. This hybrid seemingly combines perfectly to give you the best of both worlds. So far we have been very impressed. It is more vigorous and easier to grow than ‘Piresae’, and blooms year round unlike miniata. We would call these blooms red, but they are a bit more orange than miniata. The leaves on this vine are large, oval and somewhat fuzzy. This vine would be perfect for container growing as it seems to stay small and manageable in our greenhouse. It continues to bloom all winter in our 50 degree greenhouse.

This vine thrives on warm temperatures, and will grow rapidly in the correct environment, so you should plant this vine in full sun to get the best blooms.

For each item added to cart you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

For those interested, Passflora ‘Red Radiance’ is P. miniata x P. ‘Piresae’.

Passiflora 'Adularia' has 1.5" pastel pink blooms sit atop variegated, velvety leaves. This free blooming Passion Flower would make a perfect houseplant.

Dainty, pastel pink blossoms cover this free flowering plant year round. Passiflora ‘Adularia’ has blooms that are smaller and less showy than many Passiflora blossoms, but it more than makes up for it with sheer numbers. In fact, this vine is almost never without buds! It is a very easy to grow plant that maintains a small size and compact growth habit. Additionally, its leaves are accented with beautiful variegation.

For those who live in a frost free climate, this vine can be grown in the ground. Using it in a container is where it really shines though. Adularia is ideally suited to being container grown and works well as a house plant, or in a hanging basket. If you have limited space and want to grow some Passion Flowers, try growing Passiflora ‘Adularia’ and Passiflora citrina together for a stunning display.

You should provide this vine with plenty of light and moisture to keep it flowering. Grow it in a sunny spot outdoors, or in your sunniest window. If you are growing it indoors, it would benefit from temporarily moving outside to a sheltered spot in the warm summer months.

Passiflora nigradenia has large pendulous flowers with white petals and pinkish striped filaments. They are produced on a vigorous, sturdy vine. This vigorous vine is coarse textured and boasts large leathery leaves. You will find the ornate, fragrant flowers appearing in clusters hanging daintily beneath the foliage. In addition to the gorgeous flowers, it will produce tasty yellow-orange edible fruit if pollinated by another vine.

While you may never have heard of this variety, this uncommon, little known gem is worth growing. Because it likes hot weather and grows vigorously under warm conditions, you should consider it particularly if you live in a hot climate. Nonetheless, people in colder climates can also give this vine a try, as we find that it grows well in containers. In fact, in our greenhouse we have winter blossoms on potted plants.

This vine likes heat, and you should plant it in full sun if possible. Additionally, you should be sure to keep it warm. It does not appreciate sitting out in cold temperatures. This means that if you are overwintering it in a cold climate you should bring it in before it starts getting too cold.

For each item added to cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page.

This vine, known as the Scarlet Passion Flower produces large true red flowers. These gorgeous blossoms grace this vine from fall until spring. While the majority of its blooming occurs during the winter, it may also bloom sporadically during the summer months. The blossoms on Passiflora ‘Maui’ are a full inch larger than similar varieties such as Passiflora miniata. The leaves are large, oval and somewhat fuzzy.

Following its fiery red blossoms, Maui produces tasty fruit if pollinated by a different vine.

For those interested, Passflora ‘Maui’ is a P. miniata (formerly P. coccinea) selection.

Dainty pinkish-purple blooms on long stems grace this smaller vine. The deep green leaves with purple backs make it ideal for containers or hanging baskets.

Dazzling fuchsia blooms carried daintily on long thin stems grace this smaller vine. The pink, reflexed petals look like they are wearing a purple crown when the flowers are fully open. These brilliantly colored flowers stand out particularly well against the very dark, rich green foliage. This foliage is unusual in that it adds a pop of color to the plant by itself. If you turn over these glossy leaves you will be surprised by a rich reddish purple underside. For this reason containers and hanging baskets are the best way to showcase Passiflora ‘Thuraia’. For an extra pop of color on your patio, try planting this with Passiflora citrina.

You should plant this vine in full sun for best performance. Additionally as it is a true tropical plant, you should bring it indoors before it starts getting cold in the fall.

For each item added to cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot.

Small sunny yellow blooms sit atop large, velvety leaves. It is a free blooming plant in an unusual color for passion flowers.

Dainty 1.5″ sunny yellow blooms sit atop the velvety leaves of Passiflora citrina. The numerous yellow blossoms really stand out against the rich green foliage making this a striking specimen. Despite having smaller blooms than many Passion Flowers, the sheer number of blossoms more than makes up for it. This is an extremely free flowering plant in an unusual color that is great for beginners as it is very easy to grow. Plus if you want to grow two varieties together to get some extra color, this vine is the perfect growing partner for Passiflora ‘Adularia‘.

Aside from its unusual color, it’s small size is another endearing feature. This vine is best suited to growing in a container, and due to its miniature size, it is very easy to manage. It makes a good house plant for a sunny window, and will reward you with flowers year round.

It is hummingbird pollinated, and much loved by pollinators and fritillary caterpillars.

To keep the blooms coming you should provide this vine with plenty of light and moisture. Grow it in a sunny spot outdoors, or in the sunniest window you have.

For each item added to cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page.

The dainty 3″ blooms on Passiflora ‘Kew Gardens’ come in shades of light pink, and are topped with short white filaments. Every single flower is so pretty and perfect that they demand a second look. This easy to grow vine has oval, leathery leaves that will withstand abuse. You will love this heirloom plant which has been filling gardens with flowers since the 1800s. You cannot go wrong with this old fashioned favorite as it will bloom year round given appropriate conditions to keep it actively growing. Provided with ample sunlight, water, and warmth, this is a vigorous vine that will grow rapidly producing a new flower bud at each leaf node. It is also an excellent container plant that blooms readily and responds well to size management pruning. Try stringing it along your porch railing to add a touch of elegance to you yard.

In most places you should plant it in full sun. However, in hot climates it might prefer to have some light afternoon shade.

For each item added to cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page.
For those interested, Passiflora ‘Kew Gardens’ (also sometimes called x kewensis) origin is unknown. Currently it is thought that the plant in cultivation may be P. racemosa x P. mucronata.
