Description

Passiflora ‘Lavender Lady’ will smother your wall or trellis with large, bright purple flowers.  Given the opportunity, this large vine will gladly cover a wall or a fence in a season. It will do so while gracing you with dozens of flowers every day from spring to frost. It has very attractive tri-lobed foliage, and the new growth is purple tinged.  Unfortunately, in very hot locations it may only bloom spring and fall. Even so, it is still worth growing as it will keep blooming all winter.

Passiflora ‘Lavender Lady’ is one of our absolute favorites here in our zone 8 garden.  While it doesn’t have a reputation for being exceptionally hardy, it has reliably come back from the roots for us year after year.  Our vine is planted in full sun, and while it blooms somewhat sporadically for us in the summer, late summer and fall is when this plant really starts to shine.  When everything is going dormant and looking drab and brown, Lavender Lady is busy producing dozens of flowers every day, and will keep it up until we get a hard freeze.

In most places you should plant this vine in full sun. However, in very hot climates it would prefer to have some light afternoon shade which will likely help it to keep blooming in the heat.

For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

For those interested, Passiflora ‘Lavender Lady’ is an old variety with an unknown parentage.  It is sometimes considered synonymous with Passiflora ‘Amethyst’ (P. amethystina x P. caerulea).

Hardiness zone: 8

What does hardiness zone 8b mean?

It means that this Passiflora is somewhat cold tolerant and does not require protection from freezing temperatures. If you are growing it planted in the ground outdoors, it can survive temperatures down to about 15 degrees.  The top will be killed to the ground, but should re-sprout from the roots. It requires a well drained location, and would benefit from a protective winter mulch.  If grown in a container, it will need to have the roots protected from freezing temperatures.
