Lovely flowering plant that can be grown indoors or out. Ever blooming, dwarf Abutilon with large, orange, bell shaped flowers. Snowdrop Farm exclusive.

The post Abutilon ‘Pumpkin Spice’ first appeared on Snowdrop Farm.

Pumpkin Spice is our newest Abutilon variety, being released in 2026. It is a variety that was bred right here at Snowdrop Farm! This Abutilon is a unique, gorgeous light orange color. Pumpkin spice is a seedling off of Abutilon ‘Blushing Belle’. It has a flowering and growth habit virtually identical to Blushing Belle or Red Glory. It is a dwarf plant with a slightly weeping habit due to the weight of all the blossoms. The plant is covered in large, open, downward facing blossoms year round. Pumpkin Spice grows to about 2′ tall, but can be kept smaller with pruning.

Abutilons as a group are interesting in that flower color can sometimes significantly intensify or change in cooler weather. Pumpkin Spice is certainly a good example of that trait! If kept in cool temperatures over the winter the flower color becomes more intense and deepens more towards a pinkish-orange. The photos of the whole plant were taken during warmer weather. The two photos that are close ups of the flowers were taken during the winter when temperatures were maintained about 50 degrees. We happen to love both versions of this plant.

Abutilon is an evergreen perennial in warm climates, and can be easily grown as an outdoor annual or a houseplant in colder climates. It isn’t picky about its environment as long as it receives plenty of water and bright light. It is suited for both container culture or planting in the ground, and will happily bloom on your windowsill or outside on your patio. Abutilons respond well to pruning. Flower buds are produced on new growth, so they can be easily be shaped and maintained to size with regular trimming.

Because of its leaf and flower shape, Abutilon is known by many different names, they include flowering maple, parlor maple, Indian mallow, Chinese bellflower, and Chinese Lantern.

You will receive 1 Abutilon starter plant in 2.5″ pot for each item added to the cart. An example of starter plants is included in the photos. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

Looking for a complimentary Abutilon?

Check out Abutilon ‘Little Sunshine’ whose bright yellow color will compliment Red Glory nicely.

Hardiness zone: 9

What does hardiness zone 9 mean?

It means that Abutilon are not cold tolerant and require protection from freezing temperatures. If you are growing them outdoors, bring them inside before it starts frosting. While they will tolerate a light frost, continual cold temperatures will kill them.

Passiflora Panda is a free flowering hybrid producing large 5" white flowers with deep blackish purple centers reminiscent of Panda's eyes.

The post Passiflora ‘Panda’ first appeared on Snowdrop Farm.

Passiflora ‘Panda’ is a tetraploid hybrid vine that produces truly spectacular flowers that can be up to 5″ across. It’s flowers have alternating white and blushed purple petals. The filaments are mostly white, but the flowers have a deep blackish purple center which is quite striking against the white petals. One look at the contrasting flowers and you will understand where the name “Panda” comes from. This hybrid has such attractive, glossy, dark green leaves, that it makes a great plant to have around even when it isn’t flowering.

Panda is similar to Passiflora ‘Clear Sky’ and Passiflora ‘Betty Myles Young’ in size and performance and would complement them nicely. If you like either of those two varieties or the Common Blue Passion Flower, Passiflora caerulea, you should love Panda. Similar to its parents, Panda will tolerate a frost, but it is not particularly cold hardy. It would be best to protect it from freezing temperatures, and it will likely thank you with year round blossoms.

Maximize your blooms by planting this vine in full sun. However it will also tolerate some shade at the expense of fewer blooms.

For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

For those interested, Passiflora ‘Panda’ is Passiflora ‘Monika Fischer’ x Passiflora ‘White Wedding’ created by Roland Fischer.

Large, bright pink flowers with a rich red center grace this easy to grow vine. Free flowering heat and cold tolerant plant.

The post Passiflora ‘Miri’ first appeared on Snowdrop Farm.

Passiflora ‘Miri’ is a brand new, more heat tolerant pink hybrid. The flowers are bright pink with a deeper almost red center. The look very similar to Passiflora ‘Anastasia’ although the blooms are not quite as large. If you live in a hot location and want Anastasia’s pink blooms, Miri would likely be a better choice. While Miri still doesn’t thrive in extreme heat, it definitely seems to perform better than Anastasia who sometimes struggles to survive our summers.

Miri is an easy to grow fairly free flowering cultivar. The vigorous vine boasts deeply lobed, attractive, medium green leaves. Additionally it is quite cold tolerant. As this variety is quite new to us, we have not verified this. However, it is purported to be capable of surviving temperatures down to 20 degrees or below. We would not recommend exposing it to temperatures that cold for an extended period of time.

In most places you should plant it in full sun. However, in very hot climates give it some afternoon shade.

For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.

For those interested Passiflora ‘Miri’ is Shawn Mattison’s hybrid, but parentage is unstated.

Lovely flowering plant that can be grown indoors or out. This Abutilon boasts unusual pink double flowers hanging gracefully below lush green foliage.

Victorian Lady is somewhat unique to the world of Abutilons in that it has pink double flowers. Most Abutilons do not possess double flowers. The light pink ruffled, double flowers would make a beautiful addition to any garden. Victorian Lady is free flowering and will grace your garden with pretty 2″ blooms from spring to frost. It will continue to bloom if brought indoors before the weather gets cold.

Unlike many of the Abutilons we grow, Victorian Lady is NOT a dwarf variety. It is capable of getting 6′ or more tall and 4′ wide. However, like most Abutilons it responds well to pruning and can be kept to a smaller size quite easily. As a vigorous growing, upright bushy plant, Victorian Lady can get tall and lanky if left to its own devices, and it benefits greatly from regular pruning to keep it shaped and manageable.

Abutilon is an evergreen perennial in warm climates, and can be easily grown as an outdoor annual or a houseplant in colder climates. This particular Abutilon is very heat tolerant, and it can also survive temperatures down into the 20’s, but it is best to keep it above freezing. It isn’t picky about its environment as long as it receives plenty of water and bright light. It is suited for both container culture or planting in the ground, and will happily bloom on your windowsill or outside on your patio. Abutilons respond well to pruning.

If you aren’t a fan of really vibrant colors and are looking for something more pastel, Wedding Day has you covered! This Abutilon is a delightful light pink and white petaled flower. The flowers are composed of delicate looking white petals blushed pink at the edges. Wedding Day is free flowering and easy to care for. It blooms year round for us, is cold tolerant, and produces large 2-2.5″ blooms.

This particular variety is very upright and not quite as dwarf as some of the other varieties we grow. It grows 2-4′ tall and would make an exceptional centerpiece in a mixed container. As with other Abutilons, it responds well to pruning and can be maintained to a smaller size quite easily.

Flower buds are produced on new growth, so they can be easily be shaped and maintained to size with regular trimming

Because of its leaf and flower shape, Abutilon is known by many different names, they include flowering maple, parlor maple, Indian mallow, Chinese bellflower, and Chinese Lantern.

Lovely flowering plant that can be grown indoors or out. Ever blooming, dwarf variety with orange lantern shaped flowers and a trailing growth habit.

Star Sprite is a little different than most of the other Abutilons we grow. Star Sprite is an Abutilon megapotamicum hybrid. And thus, it has a more trailing growth habit and downward facing, dangling blooms. Star Sprite would make a good hanging basket. It also has a somewhat unique flower shape. The flowers are smaller and more Chinese lantern shaped rather than the large open bell shape of most of our Abutilon varieties. They have red centers and yellow orange petals with darker orange veins and a bright red calyx surrounding them. Depending on environmental factors, the flowers range from a very deep red-orange to a lighter yellowish orange. This makes for a really stunning floral display.

Star Sprite is easy to care for, ever blooming and quite cold tolerant. It is a dwarf plant that will stay small and maintain a nice tight compact form without a lot of pruning. It can be grown as a hanging basket or standard form, and could make an excellent addition to mixed containers.

We love Red Glory for its abundance of incredibly richly colored red blooms. The blooms on this plant are a deep, super-saturated red. In addition to its fantastic flower color, it is also very free blooming and always covered in blossoms. Red Glory is a bit larger and tends towards a slightly more open growth form than either Blushing Belle or Little Sunshine. However, it is still very compact and manageable. Red Glory is ever blooming and grows to a size of about 2’. It can easily be pruned to be kept smaller as Abutilons flower on new wood.

Aside from its flower color, one of the things we love about Red Glory is that its flowers are held more upright than many Abutilons. Many Abutilons hold their flowers facing downwards . Not so with Red Glory! The large 2.5” blooms are held in outward facing clusters making for a really exceptionally show.

Little Sunshine is the most dwarf, compact Abutilon we grow. This Abutilon comes with petite leaves and an unbelievable number of small, lemon-yellow flowers. It almost flowers too much if that’s even possible producing practically as many blossoms as leaves. We have never seen this plant without flowers on it. There is nothing more uplifting than looking at this plant loaded with vibrant yellow flowers on a dreary winter day. Because this plant is so busy producing flower buds, it stays very, very small. Almost all of its resources are devoted to flower production. It will be happy to stay a manageable size on your windowsill indefinitely. So far we have not had it exceed a foot tall making it the perfect addition to an indoor garden.
