Description
Large coarse vine with glossy lobed leaves that produces large white flowers that have dark purple centers and long frilly filaments. We grow Passiflora edulis ‘Big Red Jack’ for its wonderful ornamental characteristics as it is more compact and blooms more readily than our Passiflora edulis. In addition to having abundant, beautiful flowers, this vine is a selection of the species commonly grown for fruit and produces large edible fruits if pollinated. In colder climates the fruit will not ripen before frost and the vine will need to be brought inside to ripen the fruit.
Plant this vine in full sun or you will not get flowers. You can grow this vine in a container in cold climates, and it will bloom. However, due to its large size and tropical nature, it does best planted in the ground if your climate will allow it.
For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.
For those interested, Passiflora ‘Big Red Jack’ is a Passiflora edulis selection, Passiflora edulis ‘Big Red Jack’.
Hardiness Zone: 10
What does hardiness zone 10 mean?
It means that this Passiflora is not cold tolerant and requires protection from freezing temperatures. If you are growing it outdoors, bring it inside once temperatures start regularly dipping below 50 degrees. Freezing temperatures will kill it.
