Description
Passiflora ‘Panda’ is a tetraploid hybrid vine that produces truly spectacular flowers that can be up to 5″ across. It’s flowers have alternating white and blushed purple petals. The filaments are mostly white, but the flowers have a deep blackish purple center which is quite striking against the white petals. One look at the contrasting flowers and you will understand where the name “Panda” comes from. This hybrid has such attractive, glossy, dark green leaves, that it makes a great plant to have around even when it isn’t flowering.
Panda is similar to Passiflora ‘Clear Sky’ and Passiflora ‘Betty Myles Young’ in size and performance and would complement them nicely. If you like either of those two varieties or the Common Blue Passion Flower, Passiflora caerulea, you should love Panda. Similar to its parents, Panda will tolerate a frost, but it is not particularly cold hardy. It would be best to protect it from freezing temperatures, and it will likely thank you with year round blossoms.
Maximize your blooms by planting this vine in full sun. However it will also tolerate some shade at the expense of fewer blooms.
For each item added to your cart, you will receive 1 starter plant in a 2.5” pot. A photo example of the starter plants we ship can be found on our Ordering and Shipping FAQ page. The plants are well rooted and are ready to be potted into a larger container.
For those interested, Passiflora ‘Panda’ is Passiflora ‘Monika Fischer’ x Passiflora ‘White Wedding’ created by Roland Fischer.
Hardiness Zone: 9
What does hardiness zone 9 mean?
It means that this Passiflora is not cold tolerant and requires protection from freezing temperatures. If you are growing it outdoors, bring it inside once it starts to freeze. This variety will tolerate temperatures down to freezing, but prolonged cold temperatures will kill it.
